Gin

Gin is the spirit derived from the juniper berry. Although production methods are varied and each one imparts a different flavor profile to the gin, the flavor of the juniper berry should be dominant in order to be considered a true gin. There are 3 dominant styles of gin that include pot-distilled gin, column-distilled gin and compound gin. Each method of preparation create different flavors for gin based not only on botanicals but on the grain used to create the fermentable base. Gin used to be considered an herbal medicine during the Middle Ages and as production methods became more sophisticated and popular with royalty, (particularly the English), it transformed into an object of commerce and a favorite of cocktail lovers everywhere.
